Crete
Crete, the largest of the Greek islands, is a land of dramatic geographic contrasts. It is defined by its rugged mountain ranges which are cut through by deep, awe-inspiring gorges. The mountains overlook fertile plateaus and a diverse coastline that ranges from the famous pink-sand shores to turquoise, lagoon-like waters. Because of its sheer size and varied terrain, Crete often feels more like a small country, rather than an island, offering everything from snow-capped peaks to sub-tropical palm forests.
Nafplion
Spread out on the Argolic Gulf, Nafplio, the first capital of Greece in 1828, radiates wrapped in the aura of its centuries-old history and great monuments.
Palamidi, Akronafplia, Bourtzi, the neoclassical emblematic buildings, the flower-lined pedestrian alleys, the museums with the Archaeological Museum and the Vasilis Papantoniou Foundation as the top ones, the squares, the waterfront – all make visitors not know what to admire first.
The hotels of the old town, the countless restaurants and cafes, the surrounding beaches complete this exceptional destination, the city that CNN has ranked among the most beautiful in the world.
Lefkada Island
December 15, 2025
Lefkada is defined by its dramatic western coastline where towering white cliffs plunge hundreds of feet into the “electric blue” waters that have made beaches like Porto Katsiki and Egremni world-famous.
Lefkada is one of the most unique islands in Greece, primarily because it is the only one you can reach by car. Connected to the mainland by a small floating swing bridge, it offers the convenience of the mainland with the “electric” turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea.
Delos Island
Mythology has it that the god of light, Apollo, was born on this humble island in the Aegean Sea, which became a sanctuary rivaling that of Delphi. The worship of the god began as early as the Ionian era and continued throughout the centuries, with festivals, ceremonies, magnificent sanctuaries, offerings from other Greek cities and much more. Due to its strategic location in the Aegean, it developed particularly as a center of navigation and trade even during the Roman era, becoming an importantt commercial center with a duty-free port.
It’s sacred isolation stands as a contrast to its neighboring island of Mykonos, from where you can catch a short boat ride for a visit.
Paros Island
December 13, 2025
Arriving at the port town of Paroikia or Chora, you are immediately struck by the chaotic crowds disembarking from the ferry boats. Then you are welcomed by the lone windmill, beckoning you to explore this quaint town. Blinding light surrounds the island, the white houses and the blue sky reflecting the sea.
As you walk past the shops, along the main road towards Naousa, your eye is drawn to the white-washed wall enclosing the religious jewel of the island, the Ekatontapyliani (100 gates) church. Entering the church yard, you step into history dating back to the reign of Roman emperor Constantine the Great.
Ithaca Island
Ithaca (Ithaki in Greek) is a beautiful and historic island located in the Ionian Sea, just off the west coast of Greece, part of the namesake Ionian Islands.
It is most famous for its connection to mythology and literature as the mythical homeland of Odysseus (Ulysses), the hero of Homer’s epic poem, the Odyssey. Odysseus displays hubris, insulting the gods, especially Poseidon (Neptune) the god of the seas, overstepping the boundaries between mortals and the divine. For that he is punished by his quest to return home, his yearning to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus, his infant son, and the loss of his entire crew.
The island has become a timeless symbol for the journey, the quest for home, and the deep feeling of nostalgia, immortalized in the poem “Ithaca” by Constantine P. Cavafy.
Milos Island
December 12, 2025
Milos is an entirely volcanic creation, built over eons by successive underwater eruptions. There are spots where the sea becomes a natural jacuzzi, with warm gases bubbling up from the seabed. Elsewhere, the sand on some beaches is so hot that it is impossible to walk barefoot.
A colorful open-air geological museum that is one of the most beautiful island in Greece. In 2021, Travel + Leisure readers voted Milos as the top destination on the planet – among other things thanks to its very friendly residents and gastronomy.
The landscapes of Milos provoke the imagination and have been inviting travelers, photographers and television crews for years.
Serifos Island
Serifos is a beautiful traditional island of the western Cyclades. With its tranquil atmosphere, this rising gem of the Cyclades promises relaxing, fun and unforgettable holidays.
It can be a part of an island hopping vacation either by ferry boat or private sailing. Serifos is not crowded, except in late July-August, with most of the tourists during peak season being younger Greeks.
Overtourism has not reached yet, and probably will not since it doesn’t have the infrastructure.
Santorini
Before Santorini became an Instagram destination, it was one of the poorest Cyclades islands. With no electricity until the mid 60s and limited connection with the mainland the people there had to eke an existence from the volcanic land, fishing and raising sheep & goats.
The special nutrients in the volcanic soil helped them developed unique varities of tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, zucchini, capers and fava (split peas; not the fava beans). All these vegetables are irrigated with limited to scarce water supplies.
Fast forward 40 years and Santorini has developed a gastronmical culture competing with Cretan cuisine and other mainland locales.
Preveza
January 2, 2026
Preveza is a captivating port city in northwestern Greece, uniquely situated at the mouth of the Ambracian Gulf where the Ionian Sea meets the mainland. Often described as having an “island feel” despite being on the coast of Epirus, the town is defined by its elegant waterfront, narrow cobblestone alleys, and neoclassical architecture. Its history is deeply intertwined with the ancient world; just a few kilometers away lie the sprawling ruins of Nikopolis, the “City of Victory”…
